『31 Days of Blogtober』09/07/2016 Harry Potter Warner Bros. Studio Tour London PART I

My third day in London was a very Harry Potter day. Since the opening of the Harry Potter WB Tour London I wanted to go there. Some years ago there were parts of the exhibition in Cologne and I went to see it, but that wasn't the same at all. The Harry Potter WB Tour London is way bigger and it feels so much more like Hogwarts. I was really excited to go and it was so good.

Luckily I planned everything beforehand and also looked up the way there which was quite good, because my tiny travel there was a bit messy as always when I go by myself.

I walked to Euston Station, bought something to eat and made my way to find the right train. This time I had to take the Overground to Watford Junction and from there the special shuttle bus to the WB Tour Location.

Finding the Overground could have been easy but as always I stood right in front of it and didn't see it. Well I got to the right train in time and while traveling there I finally ate.

the sign at Watford Junction

The bus stop was easily found thanks to the directions given on the WB Tour website and the sign at Watford Junction. And for stupid people like myself they even made posters for the special bus stop.

After a 15 minutes ride I arrived, retrieved my ticket, I had to line up for the security check and entered the building. That already had a huge impact on me. The entrance hall was decorated with photos and the Ford Anglia.

I really liked the countdown for the Fantastic Beasts and where to find them movie and a few costume designs for the movie.

I lined up to enter the exhibition and saw the first things. You're introduced with a quote and the family photos of the Dursleys. All photos and pictures are real and/ or hand painted.

Followed by the Cupboard under the Stairs. I liked that you can look into it and see it in real life.

The real start was a cinema, where a short film was streamed with introductions to the exhibition and commentary of the three main actors how the life on set was and a lot more.

When the film ended it was time to enter the Great Hall.

shortly before the entry

The Great Hall

It so fascinating to stand in the Great Hall where so many things happened you read about.

All the Hufflepuff uniforms. From Quidditch to formal wear.

In which house do you belong? The Sorting Hat might give you the answer.

At least Hufflepuff isn't the last one on the House Points scale.

The entrance ceremony began shortly after.

All the murals in the hall are hand painted but sadly they are already fading.

After the Great Hall the rest of the exhibition started. I really liked that they also included things about the screenwriting, directors, producers and the production itself. Everyone who worked at the movies was credited.

A model of the roof from the Great Hall

Ice Sculpture from the Yule Ball and the Chocolate Feast decoration.

Hair & Make Up and Costume design was next and it was really interesting to see everything in real life.

 The Leaky Cauldron

The gates are so huge it's nearly impossible to fit them in one photo.

 The boys dormitory.

What I really liked was the random prop section where they gathered a lot of different props.

Entering the Griffindor Common room. It's so cool to the all the detailed work and decoration in the room. The painted walls, the pictures and the random furniture.

Bye bye Buckbeak. On top of the tower.

And up to Dumbledore's office.

Couldn't believe my eyes how detailed everything is. So many little details to discover which you'll never see in the movies.

Even the Sword of Griffindor was there.

Next station was the Potion Classroom. Everything is so detailed again and all the shelfs with potions in it. This was one of the biggest stops you can visit.

Really liked that there were books too and cauldrons.

The wall of portraits. The green ones are the ones the animated with computers. Everything else is hand painted.

overview of the first part

The door to the Chamber of Secrets. The coolest fact about that door is that it's mechanical and not computer generated.

Hagrid's Hut is so small but also detailed. I like that it looks so comfortable. There were even pumpkins next to the hat.

Goblet of Fire

Mad Eye Moody's trunk is so one of the best props. I liked how they showcased it with the mirror above it so you can take a look inside it and discover what is at the bottom.

Remus Lupin's trunk is another one that is really cool. Just click on the video to see.

The green screen section showed us how to ride a broom or fly with magical motorbikes.

I really loved the scribble of one of the Quidditch matches. I can't read it, it's just to confusing.

Even more props were stored above our heads, like the elevator from the Ministry of Magic.

Got to visite The Burrow and could discover the Weasleys cute home.

If you're lucky you can discover your own magic inside you and chop the carrots. Click the video to see how it works.

Malfoy Manor was open to and it was quite scary to be there.

The Black Family Tree Tapestry is so beautiful to look at. Take a look yourself if you can find any special or favourite character.

Ministry of Magic all in green looked so strange in real life. I guess it's the missing green fire from the Floo Powder. Unbelievable how tall the walls are.

The first try for the prophecy globes. It's so funny when filmmakers used the same trick you used to make your special Maleficent crystal. But in the end they computer generated the globes.

More of the ministry.

In Borgin & Burke you could discover all the scare dark things. >.<

Death Eater masks and a tiny flying Dementor.

Shades of Pink. What cloud it be? Right the office of Professor Umbridge. Unbelievable how detailed it is. I really liked her furniture. But all the cat stuff is kind of scary. XD

Oh oh, what could that be? Right annoying proclamations. Take a look at some of the most ridiculous ones.

Right in front of the visitors toilets. So cool, just read what is written down there.

Nearly there but where to go?

 Hush hush through the wall.

Made it to Platform 9 3/4.

Honey Duke's, The Daily Prophet and the Railway Shop.

 Bording the Hogwart's Express.

It's so narrow in the train, nearly impossible to walk.

Some of the compartments were decorated from scenes in the movies.

Honey Duke's Trolley loaded full with candies.

19 years later~

I was so glad that even the graphics got some attention in the exhibition. Everything is a special design and a lot of them are hand painted and hand written.
A lot of love and detail went into every single piece.

The books are my favourite pieces of the graphics. Wish we had that pretty copies of the Hogwart's books to display in our bookshelves.

The Marauder's Map

Another one sectioned in the graphics is this advertisement which was especially designed for one of the movies to come up in the Muggle World.

Break time in the atrium of the exhibition. There you could buy something to drink and eat or to enjoy the Butterbeer. I actually decided against a break before time was running and I was only at the half. I just always need a lot of time for exhibitions.

Halfway through I'll make a cut here and part II will be up tomorrow evening. Stay tuned for more magical Harry Potter moments.
